Beef & Lamb Meatballs

Ingredients

  • 250g minced beef
  • 250g minced lamb
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 medium brown onion, diced finely
  • ½ cup of grated parmesan
  • 1 egg
  • 25g fresh chopped basil (handful)
  • 2 slices of thick Italian-style white bread with the crust removed
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 500ml tomato pasta sauce
  • Whole basil leaves
  • 500g pasta to serve
  • Grated parmesan to serve

Instructions

  1. Add minced beef, lamb, garlic, onion, parmesan, chopped basil into a bowl and mix well.
  2. Tear the bread into pieces in a separate bowl. Add milk and olive oil and rest until bread absorbs the moisture.
  3. Add the mince mix and egg into the bread bowl and mix well until it is well combined
  4. Use a tablespoon to scoop out some mixture and roll into small meatballs. Averaging 3cm in diameter. Place meatballs into a heavy based pan and cook on medium high for approximately 8 minutes or until browned and cooked through.
  5. Add tomato pasta sauce and bring to boil.
  6. Reduce the heat to medium, and allow to simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. Stir through whole basil leaves
  8. Serve with pasta and sprinkle with parmesan
